Foredrag med Ezio di Nucci: “Commercial Surrogacy and Women’s rights”

“In legislations where commercial gestational surrogacy is legal – such as for example California – contracts are drawn up where the surrogate commits herself to a series of actions and omissions during the pregnancy; such as for example not aborting; or aborting one of multiple fetuses should the intended parents wish so. Those contracts are important: without them, a lot of people would have no reliable access to parenting. On the other hand, these contracts may be thought to violate surrogates’ bodily autonomy by determining future uses of their bodies. Are the only ethically defensible contracts those which always allow the surrogate to – for example – abort?”
